Whether traveling for business or for pleasure, making time for working out isn't always easy, especially if you don’t have easy access to a gym. But, that doesn't mean you need to let your fitness routine fall by the wayside when on the road. Instead, follow these easy tips and tricks for working out while traveling.
Elastic Bands
With elastic bands, you can adjust your level of resistance and perform a number of beneficial exercises, including curls, squats, lunges, and more. Best of all, you can tuck the elastic bands into your luggage as they take up very little room.
When choosing bands, make sure to check the handles. Sometimes, the rubber connecting to the handles can snap off. In some instances, it is better to buy bands without a handle or go with equipment that has reinforced handles, so you won’t have to worry about it malfunctioning during a workout.
Run the Stairs
If you're in a hotel that is more than a few floors high, you can get in an excellent workout by just running or briskly walking up the stairs. If you do this for 30 minutes, you'll get in just as good of a cardio workout as you would have in the gym.
Body Weight
Body weight exercises are an effective way to switch up your fitness routine. There are all kinds of push-up variations that will target nearly every muscle of your upper body. If you find it a bit too easy, just perform your movements slower. For example, if you do a squat, don't rush through it; go down slowly. This forces your muscles to remain engaged longer.
Get Outside
Going for a jog when possible is a great way to explore the city you’re in while getting your heart rate up and burning calories. You can also choose to walk from one destination to another, instead of taking a taxi or Uber.
While you may not be able to do your usual gym workout while traveling, there are still plenty of ways to get your daily exercise. By trying these alternatives, you'll be amazed by how good you feel.
